Links to London & Public Transport

Public Transport: Keeping your carbon footprint down with WHC

Improving and enhancing the local public transport infrastructure in Watford is a key priority for the Watford Health Campus, which aims to encourage use of greener and more environmentally friendly modes of transport for journeys to and from the Campus site and new hospital. As well as the plan for the Croxley Rail Link (visit their website for more details), which aims to link local services from London Underground’s Metropolitan Line to those of the Watford Junction mainline station, the Campus hopes to encourage improved bus services to the Campus, linking Watford town centre and beyond for travellers to the site. This vision is combined with the investment in roads and highways, which will also help encourage further public transport services to and within the area.

Links to London: Links to the capital from the Watford Health Campus

Access to and from London is not an issue for the proposed Watford Health Campus development. Less than 3 miles from the M1 at Junction 5, Watford provides a great opportunity to be in the capital in as little as 20 minutes by car. Bus services from Watford help connect areas of the capital to the town and with the opening of a new access road the Watford Health Campus hopes to attract new North/South bus routes and other enhanced bus services to the site, indeed we have agreed to support local bus services to the tune of £1,000,000 over 10 years as part of the planning process.

Croxley Rail Link: Details of the proposed Metropolitan Line extension

Watford Health Campus is committed to working with Hertfordshire County Council and London Underground Limited to help see to fruition the proposed extension to the Metropolitan Line, otherwise known as the Croxley Rail Link. The plan is to connect the Watford branch of the Metropolitan Line to Watford Junction along the disused Croxley Green branch line, taking in Ascot Road and, crucially, the proposed Watford Health Campus, including the new hospital and Vicarage Road Stadium sites. It is proposed that there will be a new tube station within about 250m of the front door of the new hospital.

This extension to links with central London via both the Metropolitan Line and overground services on the west coast mainline, will prove to be of great benefit for the hospital's, patients, relatives and staff members as well as for supporters of both Watford Football Club and Saracens Rugby Club.
