Watford Football Club is a professional football club, founded in 1881, playing at Vicarage Road Stadium, the ground adjacent to Watford General Hospital.
Known as the Hornets or the Golden Boys, Watford moved to Vicarage Road in 1922, although they didn’t enjoy their most successful period until some 60 years later.
Under the stewardship or music superstar Sir Elton John, who was the Club’s Chairman during the 1970s and 80s, and former manager Graham Taylor the Hornets broke into the top tier of English football in 1982, also leading the side to their only FA Cup Final appearance in 1984.
During a further spell under Taylor in the 90s the Hornets won promotion in 1999 via a play-off final victory at Wembley, and in 2006 they repeated that feat against Leeds United in Cardiff to once more make the Premiership.
The Hornets also play host to Guinness Premiership side Saracens Rugby Football Club, who have played top flight rugby at Vicarage Road since 1997.
